Trusted by families for over 60 years

As the UK's largest wholly family-owned live-in care provider for the last 60+ years, we focus on high-quality nursing care that puts clients first, not investors.

No need to move into a nursing home

Home offers the comfort and familiarity your loved one needs to truly thrive. Hold on to the place where memories live, for as long as possible.

Unlike many providers, we meet every nurse in person and build strong relationships with them. That lets us match your loved one carefully on personality, values and compatibility, not just experience.

Highly trained nurses and carers

We're nationally recognised for the quality of our nurses and carers. Our nurses deliver compassionate, personalised care that gives families complete peace of mind.

Expert 24/7 care and support, dedicated to you

★★★★★

"It was necessary for me to contact a care service to look after my wife with 24-hour care, and after reviewing a couple of companies I settled on Consultus. I consider it one of my best ever decisions. Every member of staff I have met is just wonderful and so understanding, and the caring teams are truly compassionate in every aspect of their role."

"I have used Consultus to provide live-in carers to support several family members in their own homes over the last 19 years. In general we have been well matched with carers in terms of personalities and experience. I have recommended them to friends who have also become long-term clients."

Which live-in care service fits your family?

For most families the choice is between introduced and managed live-in care, and it usually comes down to how hands-on you are able to be. Live-in nursing care is a separate option, for when clinical care is needed.

Introduced live-in care

A family spending time together at home

Families often choose this if:

  • You live close by and can pop in regularly
  • You are happy to take calls from the carer yourself
  • You want to keep full control of your loved one's care
  • You have the time to manage the day to day

How it works: we match you with a trained self-employed carer, who you supervise, manage and pay directly. It is our most cost-effective option, but when something comes up, the carer calls you rather than us.

Live-in nursing care

A live-in nurse supporting a senior client in a wheelchair

Families need this when:

  • Your loved one has complex medical needs
  • Care has to be delivered by a qualified nurse
  • There is post-surgical, palliative or complex condition care
  • A nursing home is the only other option

How it works: a CQC-regulated service delivered by fully qualified, NMC-registered nurses with at least three years' post-qualification experience across community, acute and palliative care.

Live-in nursing care FAQs

Everything you are wondering before you call.

What is live-in nursing care?+
Live-in nursing care is a specialist form of care where a registered nurse lives in your home to provide one-to-one medical care around the clock. It means you can avoid a prolonged stay in hospital or a disruptive move to a nursing home or hospice to get the specialist care you need. Our live-in nurses are qualified and trained to support medical conditions and chronic health concerns, recovery and rehabilitation following surgery, and sensitive, compassionate end-of-life care.
How quickly can I get set up?+
Live-in nursing care can typically be arranged within 48 hours, depending on the complexity of your needs.
How are live-in nurses selected and vetted?+
All our nurses are thoroughly vetted through a rigorous process, including:
  • Right to work and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks
  • Registration verification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Employment reference checks to ensure a minimum of three years' post-registration experience in an acute, community or palliative care setting
  • Face-to-face interviews to assess suitability, professionalism and compassion
Can we choose our nurse?+
After an in-depth discussion about your individual clinical needs, preferences and personality, our experienced nurse co-ordinators will select the best nurse for you. You will then be sent the professional profile of the recommended live-in nurse.
Who is live-in nursing care suitable for?+
Live-in nursing care is suitable for individuals or couples with complex medical conditions, such as:
  • Acute medical needs requiring clinical supervision
  • Post-surgical care and rehabilitation
  • Chronic illness and disease management
  • Neurological conditions, such as dementia and Parkinson's
  • Palliative and end-of-life care
  • Recovery support following a hospital stay, to transition back into daily life
What happens if my needs change over time?+
Our live-in nursing care service is highly flexible. Care plans are regularly reviewed by your nurse and dedicated nurse consultant to ensure they accurately reflect the clinical support you require, working closely with the healthcare professionals involved in your care.
How much does live-in nursing care cost?+
Live-in nursing care costs from £2,780 per week, subject to an assessment of you or your loved one's needs.
How do I go about arranging live-in nursing care?+
It starts with a friendly discussion with a member of our experienced care advisory team, who will talk through your requirements and guide you on the suitability of our services. Should you wish to proceed, a nurse co-ordinator will discuss your specific healthcare needs with you, your family and the other healthcare professionals involved in your care, so we can match you with the right nurse. Once the paperwork is concluded, a service start date is agreed.
